verna W asked:

I have asked several times and was told they are working on it. All nutritional information always lists sodium content. Also, this an important fact to list, because many people are on low sodum diets. What is the status of adding this to the nutritional ingredients? Thank you.

I’m confused! If it’s not packaged food, then why would they need to give the sodium content? I always read labels for sodium content, although I really don’t eat any prepared foods. But you’re talking about recipes! If it’s a from scratch recipe, and it doesn’t call for salt, then there’s no sodium content. If it calls for salt in the recipe, either don’t use the recipe, don’t include the salt, or, use less than the recipe calls for. No wonder Yahoo can’t fix it… there’s really nothing to fix. Recipes are what they are. The ingredients are listed, right? I mean if it’s a recipe, then the ingredients HAVE to be listed. You look for salt. It’s our call whether we want to use it or change it… include the salt if it’s called for… or not.

I think that’s a bit challenging for recipes. For instance, if it says use canned chicken broth, they have no way of knowing the exact sodium content of the broth you choose (which varies wildly, even among low sodium brands). Same thing with anything from a can (tomatoes, beans, etc). So they could really only provide that service for recipies that use only fresh, natural ingredients, or specify ‘no salt added’ canned products, which are difficult to find.

I agree it’s still worth doing, but it certainly would complicate the process of getting the job done. We may have to settle for a subcategory of health-aware recipes where this info is provided, and recipes are limited about what they use.
